Majority of Import taxes pertaining to milk powder were removed with effect from the 12th of August 2021. The HS codes in relation to the removal of taxes are 040210, 040221 and 040229.
This duty reduction was a relief measure for importers given the recent increase in global milk powder prices amidst domestic retail price ceilings for milk powder. In spite of efforts to increase domestic milk production, imports continue to account for more than 60% of total milk supply in Sri Lanka.
