How much does the Sri Lankan government allocate for sports sector? 

Sri Lanka has planned to allocated LKR 12.6 Billion for the sports sector in 2021, this accounts for 0.26% of the national budget. Proposed spending will take place via three major government institutions namely , The minister of youth and sports, department of sports development, and state ministry of rural and school sports development.

Expenditure on the development of sports accounts for 82% and operational expenditure accounts for 18%. The Minister of youth and sports development has secured 62% of the total allocation. The breakdown of the spending in each ministry is depicted in the below infographic.

Majority of the  projects proposed by the budget are to be carried out under the minister of youth and sports. Maintenance and Improvement of the Sugathadasa National sports complex with LKR 1,329 Million is the project with the highest allocation.
