Budget 2022 : Education Sector

The Budget 2022 debate for the Ministry of Education is happening today (1st of December 2021).

Here are all the budget proposals relating to this sector.

The information relevant to the proposal can be found under section 6.13.3  of the budget speech titled ‘Elimination of Teachers’ and Principals’ salary anomalies.

The proposal in the speech allocates LKR 30,000Mn in addition to the LKR 109,000 Mn already allocated for teachers and principal’s salaries. The additional allocation is provided to expedite the implementation of the Cabinet decision dated 30 August 2021 which agreed to eliminate the Teacher –Principal salary anomalies, thereby ending the trade union activities.

In order to accelerate the 1,000 National Schools programme and for other developments in education sector, the speech allocates an additional LKR.5,300 Mn in addition to the LKR 2,200 Mn allocated in the appropriation Bill.

The information relevant to the proposal can be found under section 6.10.5 of the budget speech titled ‘Vocational and Technical Training’.

The proposal aims to provide facilities for technical and technological education and city universities and to improve the existing facilities for vocational and technical skills after school education.
